How do I keep my room clean for studying? How do I keep my room clean for working from home?
Chances are I’m not the only one trying to keep my room clean as a college student, teenager, and remote worker and I’m sure that it’s not a shocker when I say that it’s hard.
Life just gets in the way, you know. I don’t have enough time to clean my room or home. I know a thing or two about organizing, but organization for a new college student is tumultuous… to say the least. It’s time-consuming and it takes second priority to my studies and work.
Now, what did all four of those sentences have in common? They’re all excuses. Cleaning is not a matter of having enough time.
Why? Because we make time for the things that matter to us.
And if cleaning doesn’t necessarily “matter” to you, it should.
Cleaning your physical space is a fabulous first step in cleaning up your life.
Each step you take to organize your room is another step in organizing your life.
You’re able to think more clearly. Feel proud of yourself. Come off as put-together to your family and friends. Have a safe space that you look forward to seeing at the end of the day. And you know, look like you’ve got this whole #adulting thing figured out.
Pretty exciting right? Preaching all that about how important it is to get your arse up and clean may come across as contradictory to my statement: it’s okay to be lazy. (self-love right?)
I know that cleaning your room as a college student, parent, teenager, worker, etc. might just be the last thing you want to do. So while you can’t allow laziness to stop you from cleaning/organizing, you can allow it to help you get creative in finding ways to make surface-level clean looks like deep cleans.
And there are some actionable steps you can take every day to keep your space from ever getting “dirty”.
That way you’ll never have to take more than 15 minutes cleaning your room. You’re welcome.

And honeybun, if you’re sitting at home watching this, turn the volume up, get up, and go clean for the next 14 minutes and 48 seconds. That’s how long this video is and enough time to make a sizable dent in ANY room.
